See Vibrant Graffiti Art on Cowley Road in Oxford

As well as visiting Oxford’s colleges and museums, don’t forget to visit Oxford’s own high street, Cowley Road. It is one of the most diverse spots, home to a large community of Eastern Europeans, Asians, and Afro- Caribbean. Places of interest here include Oxford Central Mosque, and a wide variety of independent restaurants and shops. Plus, you can even find a small O2 Academy here! One café that caught my eye was selling a wide selection of tempting baklawa.

If you’re an art enthusiast, then you’ll love Cowley Road as well! On the different street corners, you can find vibrant graffiti art created by local street artists. Each piece of art represents a piece of Oxford’s rich heritage, from its contributions to science, to the entertainment at the Cowley Road Carnival. Without this vibrant art and its diverse community, then Cowley Road would be another boring high street…

The tenth anniversary of the Horns of Plenty art

This colourful and vibrant piece of art can be found on Stockmore Street on the wall of Sushi Corner. It was unveiled by Andrew Manson to mark the 10th anniversary of the Horns of Plenty. When thinking of the name, you may think of a mythical creature with many horns. But in real life, the Horns of Plenty are a street band with around twenty members who play at the Cowley Road Carnival each year.

The floating Radcliffe Camera on Moberly Close

This masterpiece can be found on the corner of Moberly Close as part of the Oxford Street Art Collective in Action artworks. And I think it looks like something you would find on a fantasy novel’s cover. It features one of Oxford’s most famous landmarks, the Radcliffe Camera floating on some mechanical cogs. I think the purple background is an interesting touch, which makes the mural look quite mystical.

The Big Orange M graffiti mural on Cowley Road

This vibrant art was also created by Andrew Manson from The Big Orange M to celebrate the annual Cowley Road Carnival. When looking at it for the first time, you are suddenly overwhelmed with the vibrant colours and so many things going on at once. But when taking the time to look at it closer, you can see a parade of musicians and circus acts. Among them is a green elephant. And on the left and right side of the mural, there are crowds watching. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
