What Lessons I Learnt When Buying Milkshakes in Hayes

Hayes is located near Uxbridge and Southall in West London. It is conveniently located near London Paddington because of GWR and more recently, Crossrail. There are also lot of places to eat and shops here, including a mega ASDA. In addition, there are lots of apartments being constructed here because of regeneration work taking place. And we can’t forget the old HMV building, with “His Masters Voice” written in bold black letters, which I see every time I go past Hayes on the GWR.

In my opinion, Hayes is not the most exciting of places. For shopping, there’s the high street where there’s a mixture of commercial and independent stores. No shopping mall here unfortunately. The high street is quite busy, like any typical street in London. But there are some surprisingly quiet places too such as the canal. When I came here with my friend, we both decided to buy milkshakes from a local Indian restaurant on the high street.

Buying ‘Expensive’ Milkshakes

We were drawn to this restaurant because of the menu on the window, which include a selection of milkshakes. You could choose from flavours including banana, strawberry, and Ferrero Rocher. We both ordered Ferrero Rocher milkshakes, which cost £3.50 each. We were expecting the quality to be really good- think Ferrero Rocher with ice cream, so we couldn’t wait to try them. This restaurant also does a wide selection of Mathai and Barfi, as well as savoury foods including samosas. All for very good prices.

Finally, our milkshakes were ready. Two Ferrero Rocher milkshakes were presented to us, and they looked amazing. But as we drank them, we were very disappointed… There was no ice cream in it at all. It was just milk, Ferrero Rocher, and ice. But unlike the selection of sweets here, the milkshake was not worth the price.

What Lessons Can Be Learnt from This?

I think the main lesson that can be learnt from this is one about making mistakes and how to deal with them. The mistake I made buying this milkshake was that I wasted my money, so this is now a lesson on how to avoid wasting money. And it’s a reminder to be careful where to buy milkshakes from. My advice for dealing with these sort of minor mistakes is to not let them get to you. Secondly, you shouldn’t let it ruin your day. In fact, this made the trip more memorable as its now something we laugh about when we think about what we got up to in Hayes.

As well as lesson on mistakes, this is yet another reminder on how to avoid being ripped off. When out travelling, it is very important to be careful about where you spend your money. It can sometimes be very easy to purchase poor quality goods and foods, especially at market stalls and small corner shops. So, I recommend avoiding these places, unless they do reductions. When it comes to buying milkshakes, I recommend Burger King or McDonalds if you want to find good priced milkshakes. Alternatively, you can make your own at home using these recipes from BBC Good Foods: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/milkshake-recipes.

Verdict

Overall, this trip to Hayes was one of many reminders of how easy it is to make mistakes. Remember, mistakes aren’t the end of the world. They can be used as lessons for the future, in this case on how to avoid buying bad quality items.
