Eat Delicious Pakistani Food at Zaika Takeaway & Restaurant

When it comes to finding authentic Pakistani food (and fresh naans) in London for a great price, Wembley Central is one of the best places to go… It’s not far from Central London at all- only twenty minutes away from Paddington Station via the Bakerloo.

There are loads of South Asian shops, salons, and restaurants to go to here. When I came here for lunch with my friend in December 2019, we decided to give Zaika Takeaway & Restaurant a try.

The Tough Decision of What to Order

As the name suggests, you have the option choose takeaway (including through Just Eat) or eat inside. This restaurant is also HMC Halal and caters for vegetarians. We decided to eat in, as it was very quiet at the time as there was only one other group inside. When I read the menu and saw the wide selection of food presented at the counter, I knew straight away it would be tricky to decide what to order. You can view the menu on Just Eat.

Mains here include a variety of meat dishes, curries such as korma, seafood, and vegetarian dishes… Specials here are particularly exotic- they consist of Lamb Brain (considered very special) and Paya, which is lamb feet in curry. For anyone who has eaten either one of these dishes, please share your experiences in the comments below.

Lamb brain is a very acquired taste, so I played it safe and ordered two Lamb Samosas (90p each) for starters, Lamb Saag (£6.49) for main, and two Naans (90p each) on the side. The samosas were presented on a small plate with some salad. They were freshly fried, making the pastry golden and crispy, complimented by the flavours of the lamb mince filling fortified within…

Review of the Meal

The quality of the naans here met all my expectations, compared to ones I’ve had at more commercialised places. Those ones are normally thin, and probably made in a factory beforehand. Plus, you get very little for the price you’re paying too. In contrast, the naans at Zaika were thick, soft, and made freshly. They were also presented in a brown basket. All this for 90p per naan, so definitely no complaints here.

For those who don’t know what lamb saag is, this is pieces of boneless lamb in spinach curry. It came presented in a silver bowl, with a large spoon. I liked this, as you can either share it or have a bit at a time on your plate. This allows you to take your time and savour it more, rather than eating it all at once. The quality was amazing- the spinach curry was thick, and the lamb pieces were large and cooked until they were tender.

Verdict

Overall, I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Pakistani food in London, because of the prices and quality here. I definitely want to come back here at some point and try more of the dishes.
