10 Things Not To Bring On Your Day Travels

10 Things Not To Bring On Your Day Travels

There are a lot of posts out there about what to take with you when travelling for the day. But not many posts about what you shouldn’t take with you. Here, I’ve listed 10 things that you shouldn’t take with you on your day out as these things (except 10) so you don’t attract thieves or look like a tourist. Some of these things could also get damaged or lost, so it’s better to leave them behind.

1.     Laptop

If you aren’t going to use your laptop when out and about, it is a good idea to leave it behind. Especially when going to tourist attractions to prevent theft or damage. Plus, you can save a lot of space in your bag too.

2.     Tablet/ iPad

Like laptops, it is a sensible idea to leave these behind too to prevent them getting stolen, damaged, or lost.

3.     Expensive accessories and valuables

It is not wise to bring excess valuables with you, especially when going to tourist spots or if you’re travelling at night. Leave luxury valuables such as jewellery and watches behind, so you don’t lose them or draw the attention of muggers.

4.     Tourist like items of clothing

Yes, that includes clothing such as that I <3 UK t shirt, walking boots (unless you’re hiking), and big hats. When going to unfamiliar or new areas, you should wear clothes to blend in and keep under the radar. This is so you don’t stand out like a sore thumb to avoid attracting the attention of thieves.

5.     Fancy camera equipment

With smartphone cameras constantly evolving, there is now less need for expensive camera equipment to take good photos when out and about.

6.     Binoculars

Just no. These take up a lot of space in your bag, and its one of the biggest giveaways that you’re a tourist.

7.     Cash

Card and contactless are becoming a lot more popular now, especially during the pandemic. Some businesses are even cashless now as well. It is better to use card when you can for hygiene and safety reasons.

8.    Paper Atlases and Travel Guides

Instead of carrying paper atlases around with you, use Google Maps instead. This way, you can save space in your bag. The same applies to paper travel guides etc that you can find on Google.

9.     A stuffed wallet

Read my post on what things you should keep in your wallet, so it no longer feels like you’re carrying a rock in your pocket.

10.  Negativity

Probably one of the most important things on my list. Travelling should be a happy and memorable experience, so don’t let those negative feelings ruin that memorable day out. Leave all those negative feelings such as your worries behind and have a great time…

Summary

I hope this list was useful, and now you have a clearer idea of the things you shouldn’t bring when travelling. It is not the most sensible idea to bring things you won’t be using either as this can clutter your backpack and can attract unwanted attention from thieves. Have I missed anything on my list? I’d love to hear your suggestions in the comments below…
