What Important Things Should You Keep in Your Wallet?

Is your wallet stuffed to the brim with cards, receipts, and cash? This doesn’t have to be the case anymore. In this guide, I will show you some hacks on what to keep in your wallet, so it doesn’t feel like you’re carrying a rock in your pocket.

Before continuing to read these hacks, bring your wallet and empty it out so you can sort through everything. Then read these hacks for deciding what to keep and what not to keep in your wallet.

What to keep in your wallet?

1.     Bank cards

Although you can load your bank cards onto Google Pay, Samsung Pay, or Apple Pay, I advise you not to do this for security reasons. Therefore, you should carry your bank cards in your wallet. But only cards you frequently use though.

2.     ID Cards and Passes

This includes ID cards for your workplace, membership cards and passes for facilities such as public transport. Photo ID cards such as driving licenses should be left at home unless you absolutely need it.

3.     Cash

Because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, it is better not to carry cash for hygiene reasons. An increasing number of places are only accepting card and contactless payments. Plus, it is safer not to carry cash in my opinion.

4.     Credit Card Multi- Function Tool

These can be useful. It’s a small metal tool that’s shaped like a credit card and has features such as a bottle opener and ruler.

Download these phone apps:

1.     Google Pay, Samsung Pay or Apple Pay

You don’t need to carry your vast collection of loyalty cards and gift cards in your wallet anymore thanks to Google Pay and Samsung Pay (for Android users) and Apply Pay (for iOS users). You can now scan and load your loyalty and gift cards onto these apps.

You can now leave your physical loyalty cards and gift cards at home now. However, some digital gift cards and loyalty cards wont scan in store, so make you keep these physical cards in your wallet.

2.     Banking Apps

These allow you to track your spending, alert you when making transactions, and help you budget more effectively. You can also contact support and freeze your card if required. However, for security reasons, I advise you NOT use your phone for contactless payments.

3.     Loyalty Card Apps

Most loyalty schemes have their own apps, and these are really useful when it comes to tracking your points and finding good deals. For example, the Boots Advantage Card app allows you to load deals straight onto your card which you can use in store.

Some loyalty schemes even give you bonus points for downloading their apps. For example, Costa gives you £1 when you download their app.

4.     Cashback Apps

There are a variety of cashback apps which you can use such as Voucher Codes, Top Cashback, and Quidco. Keep these on hand as you can find good deals and get cashback for certain transactions by uploading receipts and you can save some money too! 5.     Railcard App

If you’re a Railcard Holder (16-25 or 26-30), you can now purchase a Digital Railcard instead of a plastic one. Now that’s one less card you have to carry in your wallet…

6.     TfL Oyster

If you’re an Oyster Card holder, then you can download TfL Oyster app on iOS or Android. You can tap it, check its balance, and top it up when required.

Summary

With the introduction of phone apps such as Google Pay and Apple Pay, it now means you have to carry a lot less in your wallet. I hope these tips were helpful, and now you don’t need to carry a full wallet around with you anymore. Have I missed any tips? Let me know in the comments below.
