See Spectacular Lights at Wembley Park’s ‘United In Light’ Event

Wembley Park in London always has something new and exciting going on throughout the year. Whether it’s matches at Wembley Stadium, or outdoor events such as the beach or cinema, there’s always something going on here that you’ll love… And the Christmas period is no exception either. As well as the sales at the London Designer Outlet, you can take part in the Winterfest event and see some vibrant lights too.

Due to Coronavirus this year, many of the events including Winterfest had to be postponed this year. Plus, members of the public weren’t allowed to walk around the stadium as that had been cordoned off. But you can still see spectacular Christmas lights from 27th November 2020 – 3rd January 2021 for the second year running. This year’s theme is ‘United in Light’ which symbolises hope and light at the end of the tunnel.

Unleash your inner child at The Shadow Wall

I came to Wembley Park after going to the high street, so the first exhibit I came across was The Shadow Wall. It’s situated under the Royal Route Underpass, and it is great for adults and children alike. This was designed by the artist Jason Bruges, and the walls are light sensitive which I found quite cool. Silhouettes are created from your shadow when you walk under the bridge. So, it’s a great chance to bring out your inner child. So next time you walk under the bridge, take the time to check out The Shadow Wall…

London’s tallest LED tree is back for the second year running

After walking under the Royal Route Underpass, London’s tallest LED tree was the next attraction I came across, towering over the other trees and passers-by… The Aurora Arbour Christmas Tree is one the main attractions of Winterfest for the second year running. This year’s artwork is based on the movement of the winter sky, created by the artist Sian Bliss. I loved how the lights on the tree changed colour, from light blue to other colours like yellow.

The other trees had multicoloured lights on them which created the perfect opportunity for some photography too. The best photos are taken when you have the Aurora Arbour in the centre of your camera, with the trees on either side.

The Spanish Steps have some new art

The vibrant Spanish Steps are an iconic feature in Wembley Park, contributing to the artistic touch in this neighbourhood. The art on these steps is always colourful, with a lot of thought going into the meaning behind it. For the United in Light event, the art on the steps was ‘Drawn Together’.

The artist Tash Randolph collected 612 self- portraits and put them together side by side, to reflect on the public working together to tackle the ongoing pandemic. From afar, these portraits look like rows of silhouettes… It is only when you go closer to the steps that you see each one is unique, which I think is a great representation of individuality.

The Borealis Banners line the Olympic Way

As well as the ‘Rental Rebellion’ and LDO banners, The Borealis Banners lined the pathway to the stadium. And they were a great touch when taking photos of Wembley Stadium. Like the other decorations here, the best time to come to see the banners is when it gets dark.

Inspirational messages such as ‘Thank the NHS’ appeared across the banners, reminding us of the work the NHS is doing in tackling the virus. And I feel the message ‘We All Share The Same Sky’ is a reminder of community. I’d be interested to hear your opinions on what you think these messages mean in the comments below.

Verdict

Overall, if you’re looking to see some great Christmas lights this year other than the ones in the West End, add Wembley Park’s Winterfest to your list… The multi coloured lights really lift your mood, which is much needed during these difficult times. Plus, you can take some really incredible photos for your next Instagram post. Don’t forget to check out the photos I took on The Brown Minimalist Instagram page.

Remember, if you’re going to be travelling during the pandemic, stay safe by following these steps so you can protect yourself and others too.

What’s your favourite ‘United In Light’ exhibit at Wembley Park? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. I’d say mine are the Borealis Banners on Olympic Way, and the Aurora Arbour Christmas Tree outside the LDO…
