Find Serious Deals at the ICON Outlet in The O2

When you think of The O2 on the Greenwich Peninsula in London, you probably think of the entertainment venues such as the o2 Arena where loud concerts and big events are held. But did you know that The O2 now also houses an outlet with over 60 stores? The ICON Outlet at the O2 is one of the newest designer outlets on the scene, so definitely make sure you add this one to your list of places to shop… And here, you can find some serious deals!

Like many neighbourhoods in London, The Greenwich Peninsula has undergone a lot of regeneration work which has completely transformed the area. Now it is home to The O2, the Emirates Air Line, and apartments where you can see some beautiful views of the Thames. Additionally, this area is a great place to take photos of the Canary Wharf Skyline.

Shops at the ICON Outlet

When the outlet originally opened in 2018, there were only 30 shops here. Now there are more than 60 stores here, where you can find up to 70% off RRP! For designer brands, go to stores include Tommy Hilfiger, Ted Baker, and Guess. For sportswear, there’s the renowned Nike Factory and the Adidas Outlet. Or if you’re looking for shoes, then there’s asics and Sketchers.

Furthermore, a visit here is not complete without going to the Build-a-Bear Workshop, which brings out the inner child in everyone. I admit I love the Star Wars teddy bears here… There’s also the Lindt store, and Whittard, where you can sample some delicious hot chocolates. So, as you can see, there is something here for everyone.

An early morning adventure…

From Monday – Thursday, the opening times are 11am- 6pm, but on Fridays, it is open until 8pm. On Saturdays, it is open from 10am – 8pm. When I came here for the first time in July 2019, I came at around 9:30am on a Saturday before the shops opened. As you can imagine, it was deserted, like most parts of Central London are on a weekend morning. So, it felt like quite a surreal experience… I was one of the only people there at the time, so it was quite a good opportunity to explore the place in peace.

The Design of the ICON Outlet

When you walk into The O2, past the security barriers, straight ahead you can see the entrance to the o2 Arena in the massive foyer. To get to the Outlet, you then walk up the flight of stairs on the left. It’s also a great place to take some photos too for Instagram… The main area of the outlet, which is spanned over two floors reminded me of Westfields in Shepherds Bush, and the Bullring in Birmingham. The yellow pillars were a great addition too, which reminded me a bit of a submarine interior.

Getting to the ICON Outlet

The ICON Outlet has some adventurous public transport links, which puts the bus and even the Tube to shame… You can get here from the ExCel Centre on the cable cars, which is an experience I strongly recommend. You can see some amazing views of Canary Wharf and see The O2 in its full glory too! A single ticket is only £3.50 for Oyster or contactless cardholders.

You can even get to the outlet via the Thames Clippers in less than half an hour from Central London. For anyone who has been on the Clippers, I would love to hear about your experiences in the comments below. So far, I’ve only been here via the cable cars and the Tube. In terms of getting here via the Tube, North Greenwich Station is only a short walk away. This station is served by the Jubilee Line- it is only one stop away from Canary Wharf, and 10 minutes away from Stratford.

Verdict

Overall, if you’re bored of Westfields and Oxford Street, then I’d definitely recommend having a change in where you shop. And where else to do this than at the ICON Outlet? There are so many shops here that do great deals (up to 70% off RRP) all year round. I love the unique design of The O2 too, and the quirky architecture in this part of London too!

If you’re looking for other outlets in London, don’t forget to visit the London Designer Outlet in Wembley Park, which you can easily get to via the Jubilee Line…
