Learn New Skills During Lockdown to Enhance Your Travels

At the moment, the UK is in lockdown due to Coronavirus, which means that once again travelling has to be put on hold. But don’t waste your time in lockdown by doing nothing. The best way to make the most of this lockdown is to learn new skills that will make your life easier, such as DIY and cooking. Or you could even launch start your own travel blog. If you can offer anymore tips, I’d love to hear about them in the comments below.

Learn how to make your own snacks and lunch

Eating out can get expensive over time, so why not use this lockdown as a chance to learn to cook. Not only is it cheaper, but it’s also a lot healthier too as you have more control over what ingredients you use. Learn how to cook simple dishes in under 30 minutes, that you can take with you on your next travels in a container or Thermos. If you’re not sure where to get started, you could try making this Veggie Ramen Soup by Abundance of Flavor.

Launch your own travel blog

Starting a blog or writing for other blogs is a great way to improve your writing skills and potentially turn it into a side hustle. Plus, it’s a great way to relive your travels when you write posts about them, and look through your photo collection. During the first lockdown in May 2020, I was inspired to launch The Brown Minimalist after watching NAS Daily and Drew Binsky on YouTube.

Here are some hacks & tips to get you started:

Look at ways to save on travel costs with cashback and Railcards

  • If you’re aged 16-30 years old and you use trains regularly, get your own Railcard to save 1/3 on train fares
  • TopCashback offers cashback on Trainline tickets (excluding season tickets). Download the app and install the addon your web browser
  • Book tickets in advance using Trainline to get discounts

Clean your backpacks out

Clean your backpack out regularly to stop it from getting dirty and wash it too. I’d recommend hoovering the inside of it to remove any crumbs and small bits of rubbish, then putting it in the washing machine. Check the label first though to make sure it’s machine washable.

Take out any stuff you such as souvenirs you may have picked up, or old paperwork. Don’t forget to read my post on things you should take on your travels, and things you shouldn’t take.

Sort your photo collection out

  • Delete any duplicate and bad quality photos.
  • Sort your photos into different albums- such as different cities you’ve been to, selfies, etc.
  • Add your favourite photos to your Favourites album.
  • Make sure you back up your photos to cloud storage regularly which you can do with iCloud and Google Photos.
  • Edit photos to improve the lighting on them and straighten or crop them.
  • Use them for your travel blog if you decide to launch one.
